Document Control / Technical Writer (6–9 Month Contract)

Location: Hybrid (U.S.-based with occasional travel to London)

Industry: Modular Data Center Manufacturing

About Company

Our client designs and manufactures cutting-edge modular data centers used by some of the most innovative tech companies in the world. We combine precision engineering, scalable systems, and clean design to deliver high-performance infrastructure at speed.

We’re hiring a Document Control / Technical Writer with a strong manufacturing background to help us create a modern, web-based documentation and training system for our modular systems.

Role Overview

This is a 6–9 month contract role for someone who thrives in both the factory floor and behind a screen. You’ll collaborate with engineers, interpret technical data, and build clear, step-by-step documentation and multimedia training content — all tailored for real-world use by field technicians and clients.

Responsibilities

  • Own document control for modular systems: Create, organize, and maintain technical documentation including installation guides, component specifications, and operational procedures.

  • Translate complex technical data from vendor cut sheets, Revit drawings, and manufacturing specs into user-friendly documents.

  • Build web-based training manuals with embedded videos, images, and process diagrams (e.g. how to replace filters, swap parts, perform inspections).

  • Collaborate closely with engineers and shop floor staff (~30% of the role) to understand build processes, equipment, and workflows.

  • Use manufacturing-focused software like InDesign, Bluebeam, and Revit to create visual documentation that mirrors real-world application.

  • Maintain consistency and version control across all documentation assets.

Required Qualifications

  • 3-10 years experience in technical writing or document control within a manufacturing environment

  • Hands-on experience creating documentation for physical systems, assemblies, or mechanical equipment

  • Proficient in InDesign, Bluebeam, and Revit

  • Strong understanding of manufacturing workflows, BOMs, and QA/QC documentation

  • Comfortable gathering information directly from engineers, technicians, and CAD models

  • Strong writing, formatting, and organizational skills

  • Able to travel internationally for a short (1-week) onboarding trip to London

Nice to Have

  • Experience with data center infrastructure, HVAC, MEP systems, or modular fabrication

  • Familiarity with building out digital training platforms or documentation portals
