Milhouse is looking for a Technical Writer to join our growing Business team! This is a brand new role to Milhouse that will lay the foundation for how technical information is communicated across teams, clients, and industries. You will be instrumental in developing clear, compelling, and accurate documentation that supports our engineers, enhances project delivery, and elevates our brand. This role involves creating high-quality proposals, technical reports, marketing materials, and client-facing documents.

The Technical Writer will collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs), engineers, project managers, and business development teams to ensure content accuracy, consistency, and alignment with industry standards and client expectations. If you're passionate about translating complex concepts into accessible content and want to build something from the ground up, please apply directly!
**Please note this role will follow our hybrid schedule of 4 days in-office at our downtown Chicago office.

What you will do:

    • Proposal & Bid Development:
    • Write, edit, and format technical content for Requests for Proposals (RFPs), Requests for Qualifications (RFQs), and Requests for Information (RFIs). 
    • Ensure proposals effectively communicate the company’s value proposition, capabilities, and experience. 
    • Work closely with the Pursuit Analyst and Business Development teams to gather and structure proposal content. 
    • Technical Documentation & Reports:
    • Develop and maintain internal and external documents, including white papers, case studies, project descriptions, and best practice guides. 
    • Translate complex technical information into reader-friendly content for clients, stakeholders, and non-technical audiences. 
    • Standardize and improve document templates, ensuring consistency in formatting, tone, and branding. 
    • Marketing & Business Development Support:
    • Assist in the creation of marketing collateral, such as brochures, presentations, website content, and thought leadership articles. 
    • Support executive leadership with written materials for industry conferences, public speaking engagements, and client meetings. 
    • Collaborate with graphic designers and marketing teams to enhance visual appeal and engagement of written materials. 
    • Content Organization & Knowledge Management:
    • Maintain a library of proposal content, past project descriptions, resumes, and company qualifications for future use. 
    • Organize and update industry-specific terminology, writing guidelines, and reference materials. 
    • Implement version control processes to track document updates and ensure consistency. 

What we are looking for:

    • Strong ability to translate technical concepts into clear, compelling narratives. 
    • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills with attention to detail. 
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and Adobe Acrobat. 
    • Experience with proposal management software (e.g., Deltek Vantagepoint) is a plus. 
    • Familiarity with APMP (Association of Proposal Management Professionals) best practices is preferred. 

Your background:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, Communications, Journalism, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. 
    • 5+ years of experience in technical writing, proposal writing, or business communications within the engineering, construction, or infrastructure industry. 
    • Knowledge of government procurement processes, construction contracts, and industry regulations. 
    • Experience working in A/E/C (Architecture, Engineering, and Construction) proposals. 
    • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple deadlines and priorities. 
$75,000 - $90,000 a year
The actual base pay depends upon many factors, such as education, experience, and skills. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
